  1. Purpose of the position:

Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) programs in collaboration with health services, finance, Regional Medical Officer (RMOs) and Health Management Information System (HMIS). Ensure that the relevant Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) policy, strategy and procedures are officially endorsed and disseminated to all related stakeholders.

  1. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates case investigation and adverse event investigation related to vaccine preventable disease (VPD), including follow up with health units to assist with management of cases.
  • Investigates the Outbreak of vaccine preventable disease (VPD), including follow up with health unit and assistance with case management.
  • Ensures that standardized trainings on EPI are included in pre-service training curricula and that health workers involved in EPI work are appropriately trained.
  • Plan Immunization surveillance and vaccine coverage surveillance.
  • Participate in Microplanning at the state level.
  • Monitor and supervise the health facilities Immunization coverage.
  • Develops the immunization strategy, policy development and establishment of the registry.
  • Ensures effective and accurate collection of EPI data for inclusion in HMIS for generation of reports and monitoring and evaluation purposes and ensures reports are shared with EPI staff at all levels of health service for feedback.
  • Develops guidelines and procedures for handling and administering of vaccines.
  • Participates in planning, scheduling and implementation of the national immunization program.
  • Develop EPI strategic and annual master plans, implements and evaluate their progress.
  • Develop EPI policy, strategies and procedures, share with partners, implements and coordinate properly in order to upgrade the coverage.
  • Works with Planning Directorate and relevant stakeholders and partners to identify areas requiring research on EPI.
  • Take part in Immunization program implementation, including vaccine procurement, distribution, and storage and handling.
  • Prepares and disseminates immunization communication, plans education programs and evaluates effectiveness.
  • Undertakes any other necessary tasks required by the head of public health related to strengthening the functioning of the department.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director Family Health
  1. Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma of science in Nursing or Public health
  • A minimum of THREE (3) years working experience in public health.
  • Experience in devising and/or implementing work procedures and an understanding of the Jubaland State of Somalia policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to successfully manage budgets, including monitoring and reporting.
  • Understanding of health and nutrition systems strengthening.

  • Knowledge of Somali language is desirable.
  • Performance appraisal will be conducted once by the line manager
